Back to Basics: Artful Ideas for a New School Year

Getting the new school year off to an artful start is as easy as ABC

It’s that time of year again. School’s almost back in session, and while it’s hard to say farewell to summer, the promise of new beginnings is always exciting, whether your child is a first-year high school student or a returning college senior. And we can’t think of a better way to kick of the year than with some world-class art from The Met.

Let’s face it. Taking notes can sometimes be dull, but not with a beautiful, art-themed notebook. Vivid reproductions of artworks in The Met collection grace our journals, including this one featuring details from the beloved Unicorn Tapestries at The Met Cloisters.

Equally important to the art of note-taking is a smart-looking writing implement. We think our handsomely patterned pens, like this Mondrian-inspired one, fit the bill nicely.

Back to school is also the perfect opportunity to jazz up that locker. The metal interior allows for an impromptu gallery space to show off artsy magnets like this set of French landscapes and still lifes.

The beginning of a new school year signals a fresh start, so why not encourage your child to pick up a new hobby? Even if your child isn’t an art major, they can still channel their creative energy with these art supplies. The Mixed Media Easel Art Set shown here has pastels, oil and acrylic paints, pencils, watercolors, and more supplies to get those artistic juices flowing.
