Announcing “Phaidon x The Met Bookstore” at The Met Breuer

A collection of nearly 300 of Phaidon’s signature titles paired with The Met's own award-winning books and an exclusive edit of our new logo products

What is it + where is it?

Our first-ever pop-up bookstore in celebration of the public opening of the Museum’s third location, The Met Breuer. Housed on the fifth floor of the landmark building by Marcel Breuer, “Phaidon x The Met Bookstore” features one of the glories of the architect’s design: the iconic trapezoidal windows overlooking New York City’s Upper East Side.

What can I expect?

This new pop-up combines a collection of nearly 300 of Phaidon’s signature titles paired with The Met’s own award-winning books and an exclusive edit of our new logo products. The rotating selection of books will encompass art, architecture, design, photography, fashion, travel, and food as well as children’s books. This collaborative space extends The Met Store’s existing offering of over 4,000 titles in our main bookstore at our Fifth Avenue location, one of the most extensive selections of art books in the United States.

The pop-up will also feature an array of limited and autographed Phaidon editions, including titles by Edmund de Waal, Stephen Shore, and chef Enrique Olvera. In upcoming months, the store will offer signed copies of new monographs from Peter Marino, Sarah Sze, and Annabelle Selldorf, as well as an exclusive Met x Phaidon edition of Phaidon’s forthcoming monograph, “Breuer.” The space will also serve as a stage for lectures and signings by a soon-to-be-announced list of popular authors whose books are sold in the store.

I love a good bookstore. Will I be able to stay a while and read?

The bookstore will be outfitted with a reading area featuring classic furniture design from Herman Miller. Next door, visitors can enjoy a selection of snacks and beverages from Blue Bottle Café. The space will also offer limited-edition prints by artists featured in the Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible exhibition, available for sale.

How long will it be up for?

The pop-up will run throughout The Met Breuer’s inaugural season of programming. Don’t miss your chance to explore this limited-time-only collaboration store! Can’t wait? Shop the selection online now here.
